Akwa Ibom State has achieved an unprecedented financial milestone. Importantly, in just 32 months under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, the state generated N2.53 trillion in revenue. Furthermore, this figure surpasses the total revenue collected in the prior eight years combined. The achievement highlights effective governance and economic reforms.
The Money
According to Quest Extra’s examination of official financial records, this amount exceeds the state’s total earnings during the eight years of former Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration as well as the last four months of Governor Godswill Akpabio’s administration prior to Mr Emmanuel’s.

Impressive Revenue Growth Under Eno’s Leadership
Since Governor Umo Eno took office, Akwa Ibom has seen remarkable fiscal progress. Moreover, the focus on diversification and efficient revenue collection has paid off. Consequently, the state’s monthly revenue average significantly increased. The administration implemented aggressive policies to maximise internally generated revenue sources.
In May 2023, Mr Eno took office as governor. Akwa Ibom State saw an exceptional increase in revenue inflows between May 2023 and December 2025, according to data from audited financial statements, budget performance reports (BPR), and Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) payment records.
The state’s overall revenue for the 2025 fiscal year alone was N1.134 trillion, according to the Akwa Ibom State 2025 fourth-quarter budget performance report (excluding the year’s opening balance). However, this came after the state’s audited financial statements for 2024 showed that N1.110 trillion had been realised. The state reported N240.46 billion in income for the third and fourth quarters of 2023, which ran from July to December.

Key Drivers of Revenue Expansion
Several factors contributed to this stellar revenue performance. First, enhanced tax administration played a vital role. The government improved tax compliance and broadened the tax base. Moreover, investment in infrastructure boosted economic activities. Thus, this development attracted businesses and expanded the state’s commercial footprint.
Additionally, Akwa Ibom enhanced partnerships with the private sector. Collaboration with local and foreign investors increased economic opportunities. The state also prioritised agricultural development and solid mineral exploration. These sectors contributed substantially to the revenue pool.

Effective Use of Technology in Revenue Collection
The administration embraced technology to improve transparency and efficiency. Digital platforms facilitated easy tax payments and minimised leakages. Automated systems helped track revenue inflows in real time. This approach reduced corruption and enhanced accountability.
Impact on Social and Economic Development
Increased revenue positively impacted public services and infrastructure. The government expanded healthcare, education, and road networks. These improvements raised living standards and attracted more investment. Furthermore, job creation increased, reducing unemployment rates across the state.

Future Prospects for Akwa Ibom’s Economy
Governor Eno’s administration plans to sustain this growth trajectory. Hence, the government aims to diversify the economy further. Focus areas include tourism, manufacturing, and technology sectors. These plans promise to boost revenue and create more jobs.
Moreover, the state government intends to maintain fiscal discipline. Efficient budget management will ensure sustainable development. Transparency and accountability will remain core principles of governance.
Appreciation and Gratitude
Governor Umo Eno was so thankful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing the revenue of the state to an all-time level. Consequently, this is the result of the president’s economic reforms, which have doubled the revenue of most states of the federation. Furthermore, these reforms will eventually crystalise at the grassroots, which will invariably increase the purchasing power of the citizens.

Conclusion: A Model of Fiscal Success in Nigeria
Akwa Ibom’s N2.53 trillion revenue in 32 months sets a new benchmark. Invariably, this achievement demonstrates what effective leadership and strategic planning can accomplish. Other Nigerian states can learn from Akwa Ibom’s approach. Governor Eno’s administration proves that good governance drives economic prosperity.
Through continued reforms and partnerships, Akwa Ibom will likely maintain its upward economic trend. The state’s success story inspires hope for Nigeria’s broader economic future.
