Tinubu Swears in NASS Commission Chairman and Perm Secs

President Inaugurates Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, 12 Commissioners, and Two Federal Perm Secs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, May 5, 2025, swore in Dr. Saviour Enyiekere as the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), alongside twelve commissioners representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, and two newly appointed Federal Permanent Secretaries. The ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, immediately before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Leadership for Legislative Service Commission

Dr. Enyiekere, an environmental expert and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Senate President, will serve a renewable five-year term as NASC Chairman. The twelve commissioners, also appointed for renewable five-year terms, include representatives from all geopolitical zones:

  • North West: Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka
  • North East: Aminu Ibrahim Malle, Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud
  • North Central: Mark Hanmation Tersoo, Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun
  • South West: Hon. Taiwo Olukemi Oluga, Hon. Afeez Ipeza-Balogun
  • South East: Hon. Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu, Festus Ifesinachi Odii
  • South South: Patrick A. Giwa, Mrs. Mary Ekpenyong

The commission is responsible for appointing, promoting, and disciplining National Assembly staff, ensuring effective legislative operations and institutional reforms.

New Permanent Secretaries

President Tinubu also administered the oath of office to two new Federal Permanent Secretaries: Mr. Rafiu Olarinre Adeladan from Oyo State and Dr. Muktar Mohammed from Jigawa State. Their appointments are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and administrative oversight across federal ministries.

Ceremony and Observances

The brief swearing-in ceremonies were anchored by the Director of Media in the Office of the President, Mr. Abiodun Oladunjoye. Before the FEC meeting, the Council observed a minute of silence in honor of the late former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dubem Onyia.

The FEC meeting was presided over by President Tinubu and attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and other cabinet members.

Significance

By appointing experienced professionals to key legislative and administrative positions, President Tinubu aims to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and professionalism of Nigeria’s governance institutions. Dr. Enyiekere’s background in environmental policy and administration is expected to bring fresh perspectives to legislative service management.
