Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally declared his candidacy for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. Thus, he will be contesting under the banner of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), marking a significant step in the evolving political landscape. Furthermore, the governor introduced the Reset Nigeria Movement as the foundation of his campaign, emphasising a vision for comprehensive national renewal. Alongside this, Makinde launched a dedicated campaign website designed to serve as a hub for policy engagement, volunteer registration, and grassroots mobilisation across Nigeria and its diaspora.

The Audacious 2027 Presidential Declaration
At the governor’s declaration, Governor Seyi Makinde was unequivocal and made this known on Thursday at the joint mega-rally of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital.
“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said. Furthermore, Makinde said the country’s situation has “continued to deteriorate, putting the majority of Nigerians on survival mode daily.
The PDP-APM Alliance
Speaking earlier, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, said the alliance is imperative because there is the need to change the situation in Nigeria for the people. He said his party agreed to the alliance as a way of rescuing Nigeria in the interest of Nigerians and shunning religious and ethnic biases that are dividing the country.
Dantalle said, “Nigeria, as the most populous and largest democracy in Africa, is being ridiculed from the claws of oppression. Hence, it is embarrassing and insulting.
“We have social ills in the form of robbery, kidnapping, and Boko Haramism. People find it difficult to pay school fees for their children. ” All of these must not continue; hence, the status quo must change.
“We have to rescue Nigeria for the interest of Nigerians. And in doing that, we have to shun religion and ethnicity and understand our differences to make Nigeria great again.

Reset Nigeria Movement: A New Vision for Nigeria’s Future
Makinde’s declaration reflects his commitment to providing Nigeria with competent and accountable leadership. He stressed the urgent need to restore public trust, strengthen democratic institutions, and deliver measurable progress for all citizens. “Nigeria cannot continue with politics as usual. This is the time to reset our nation, rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions, and create a system that works for all Nigerians,” Makinde asserted during his announcement. The Reset Nigeria agenda centres on key policy areas including economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, power sector reforms, security enhancement, and institutional strengthening. These pillars reflect Makinde’s holistic approach to addressing Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.

Digital Campaign Tools to Promote Transparency and Engagement
The campaign website plays a critical role in fostering transparency and countering misinformation. It features a dedicated Truth Hub designed to combat false narratives and provide accurate information to the public. Additionally, the website includes a Media Resource Centre that offers official statements, campaign materials, photographs, and detailed biographical information. This resource supports journalists and stakeholders in accessing verified content and staying informed about the campaign’s developments. By incorporating these tools, Makinde’s campaign aims to build trust and encourage active participation among Nigerians both locally and abroad.

His background in business brings valuable management skills and a results-driven mindset to public service. This experience positions him uniquely among presidential hopefuls, blending private sector efficiency with public sector accountability.

The formal presidential declaration ceremony took place at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan. The event convened party leaders, professionals, youth groups, and a broad coalition of supporters. This will mark the beginning of intensified nationwide mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.
