Obidient Movement Denies Peter Obi VP Slot Offer for 2027

Obidient Movement Denies Peter Obi 2027 Vice Presidential Slot Rumors

Abuja, May 19, 2025 – The Obidient Movement, a prominent support group for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, has officially denied reports that Obi has been offered the position of running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a coalition planned for the 2027 general elections. The movement described the rumors as baseless and misleading, warning against the spread of misinformation.

Statement from the Obidient Movement

In a statement signed by Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communication and Media for the Obidient Movement, the group said it had received numerous inquiries from members both within Nigeria and abroad following the circulation of the alleged offer. The statement read in part:

“While frank and cordial engagements with our partners and stakeholders towards a coalition continue amicably, the Obidient Movement would like to state emphatically that there is no truth or basis to the reports whatsoever.”

The movement reaffirmed Peter Obi’s commitment to fighting “bad governance, corruption, hunger, poverty, poor healthcare, out of school children and the myriad of other problems daily afflicting the people of Nigeria.” It emphasized that Obi’s involvement in coalition talks is focused on progressive politics and service to the Nigerian people, rather than power-sharing deals.

Reactions from Political Camps

Similarly, Atiku Abubakar’s camp dismissed the reports as speculative and aimed at causing division among opposition forces. Atiku’s Special Adviser on Media, Paul Ibe, urged the public and media to avoid careless speculation, emphasizing that coalition talks are ongoing but no final decisions have been made.

Peter Obi himself has stated that his participation in opposition coalitions is about addressing Nigeria’s core challenges, not about political positions or power grabs.

Calls for Responsible Reporting

Both the Obidient Movement and Atiku’s camp have called on Nigerians and the media to refrain from sensationalism and focus on building a united front to tackle Nigeria’s pressing issues ahead of the 2027 elections.
