A devastating helicopter crash occurred in Ghana’s Ashanti region on Wednesday, killing Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah. In addition, the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, also died with six others on board.

The helicopter, a Z9 model used by the Ghana Air Force, took off from Accra. However, it lost radar contact shortly after, which was shocking to many. The Air Force personnel involved in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala and Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu. Additionally, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah was also among them.

President John Mahama cancelled his official activities for the day, and national flags will fly at half-mast to honour them.
