Nigerian Air Force Strikes Boko Haram Strongholds

Nigerian Air Force Launches Precision Airstrikes on Boko Haram Hideouts in Borno

BORNO STATE — The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to Boko Haram insurgents following a series of precision airstrikes on key hideouts in Chikide and Degbewa, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Acting on credible intelligence, the operation targeted high-profile terrorist leaders and fortified command hubs, marking a major success in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism.

Targeting Insurgent Strongholds

The airstrikes, conducted on the night of March 17, 2025, focused on terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains. Surveillance had earlier confirmed the presence of a heavily fortified command hub, equipped with solar-powered installations and serving as a meeting point for notorious Boko Haram leader Ali Ngulde and his fighters.
According to NAF spokesperson Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the operation obliterated key logistics and command structures, sparking large fires and neutralizing dozens of insurgents.
“This operation underscores our commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security in the region,” Ali stated.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

Preliminary reports indicate that at least 30 Boko Haram fighters were killed during the airstrikes. The NAF is currently conducting a battle damage assessment to determine the full extent of destruction caused to the insurgents’ infrastructure.

The operation comes just days after Boko Haram-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists killed 22 soldiers in Borno State. In retaliation, Nigerian forces neutralized over 70 insurgents in ground operations.

Aerial Dominance Against Insurgency

The Nigerian Air Force continues to play a pivotal role in counterinsurgency efforts, leveraging advanced aerial capabilities to target insurgent camps in remote areas. However, challenges such as logistical constraints and limited precision-guided ammunition remain obstacles to sustained operations.

Impact on Regional Security

The successful airstrikes are expected to disrupt Boko Haram’s operational capabilities significantly:

  • Command Disruption: The destruction of fortified hubs weakens the group’s ability to coordinate attacks.
  • Morale Impact: The elimination of high-ranking members sends a strong message to remaining fighters.
  • Civilian Safety: The operation aims to restore normalcy and facilitate socio-economic activities in affected communities.

Conclusion

The Nigerian Air Force’s precision airstrikes represent a critical step toward dismantling Boko Haram’s network and restoring stability in northeastern Nigeria. As the military intensifies its operations, sustained efforts will be crucial to achieving long-term peace and security in the region.
